MANU TUKUTUKU
Me and my buddy Kisayah made this Manu tukutuku (Kite). We made this to celebrate Matariki, which is a maori new year. They celebrate it with songs, powhiri, food and knuckle bones.
We needed materials to make the kite. We used Toetoe, wool,Harakeke and a black piece of paper, to draw a picture.
We went up to Idoho st and say a karakia (prayer) and then we had to cut up the Toetoe. We had to say a karakia because it shows respect.
Making the Manu tukutuku was really really hard to make. The easiest part was measuring the Toetoe.
I couldn’t go to the matariki festival because I had rugby training. When we were about to make the manu tukutuku I learnt a new word it was tikanga it means why we do what we do.
Me and Kisayah were totally working as a team because we had to talk a lot about who’s doing what. The right side and the left side is the Toetoe and the fluffy bit is part of the Toetoe.
Eraia,Philip and Mya helped me.
Just in case you have no idea what matariki is it's the 7 sisters, they used to be evil. They tried to make the moari men starve to death.
Any ways.
Thank you Fafetai lava.
